Christchurch Youth Council Environment Policy

The Christchurch Youth Council:

1. Acknowledges a climate and ecological emergency.
2. Takes kaitiakitanga into account.
3. Strives for sustainable development.
4. Is committed to reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.
5. Is committed to reducing waste, especially in its use of single use plastics.
6. Will act to inform and empower young people to enable them to take environmental action how they see fit.

What Does this Mean?

It means that we are dedicated to sustainable practice and it is a priority for us both internally and when we run events and trainings. 

Following policy on the 10th June 2019 we have:
- Attempt to reduce plastic waste  and increased sustainable food products at events and executive committee meeting.
- Run quarterly rubbish clean ups around the city.
​- Starting conversations with Christchurch City Council to work in collaboration with their Declaration of a Climate Emergency.
- Held a sustainability market with young entrepreneurs and an emphasis on sustainable products.
