BRICK BY BRICK YOUTH LEADERS' HUI
We were massively excited when we found out that we had been granted funding from the Ministry of Youth Development to host a Youth Leaders' Hui! Held in conjunction with an event held in January by Ashburton Youth Council, Brick By Brick (BxB) was designed to be a space for young people in youth participation groups (particularly youth councils) to get together and learn new skills, devise new ideas and plans to take back to their organisations and have FUN! The first event in Ashburton's Hakatere Marae was amazing, with a powhiri and Māori games!
Our own Lego-themed (!) day was designed to follow on and develop skills that might be handy for Youth Councillors to have. We hired the Gloucester Room at the Issac Theatre Royal and had catering from New World and Sushitime. Alongside these two extreeeemely vital elements, we also had a really busy programme for the day for all our attendees from Christchurch, Hurunui and Selwyn Youth Councils:
From this event, we were able to create, with the help of Josiah's dad, a t-shirt featuring the 'Turtle of Leadership', a concept devised by the young people in the Leadership workshop earlier in the day. We will be gifting a shirt to each participant as a keepsake of their time at BxB. |
