When you join CYC, the expectation is that you come to meetings, take part in events, organise STUFF and generally get stuck into things. But what about the personal development aspect of being a young person who happens to be a Youth Councillor? To answer this question, in 2015, we've came up with Passion Projects. We decided to focus on helping our team add other strings to their bows and in the process get some amazing new initiatives out there. We're currently in the process of cranking Passion Projects up again for 2016, so watch this space!
what is a passion project?
Passion Projects are self-created spaces where our Youth Councillors get something on the go that really matters to them and the communities they involve themselves in. They'll be using our group's capacity to come up with something in their spare time that makes life better for young people in Christchurch. They'll have to plan, pitch and source funding (if needed) for their ideas, and along the way develop a whole heap more skills. They can work together as a team with folks from inside or outside CYC, or by themselves if they want to. Each project is entirely independent. At the end of the year, this 'experiment' will be evaluated by the Youth Councillors in our Annual Report.
the basic idea:
Timeline: From June until August, Youth Councillors will be planning their projects and they'll be well under way by the time we get to spring. By December, they'll have a report on their activities for the CYC Annual Report.
NOTE: Projects can be one-time events or ongoing initiatives.
